Online Travel Training supporting UK Travel & Tourism Colleges

Official ‘Teacher Guides’ now available Online Travel Training (OTT), the specialist provider of e-learning courses for travel professionals, is now providing support for travel and tourism teachers in schools and colleges, thanks to its partnership with Sector Skills Council People 1st.

The teacher guides, based on Online Travel Training’s destination courses, were initially developed to support the new Diploma in Travel and Tourism which is first being taught in September 2010, but the teacher guides also support a range of other popular travel and tourism qualifications, including BTECs, City & Guilds and OCR level 2 and level 3 vocational qualifications. All teacher guides are free to access, as are the destination courses – all students need to do is register once and they have access to the whole range of courses. Teacher guides are currently available for three destinations – Malta, Portugal and Lithuania, as well as an Introduction to Travel and Tourism. Further guides will be developed, but teachers are encouraged to develop their own to meet the needs of their students and the qualifications they are studying.

John Humphreys, the Diploma development manager at People 1st, who wrote the teacher guides, said “we should encourage teachers wherever possible to utilise the training modules that have been specifically developed to update travel professionals. These modules not only provide the knowledge that students need about specific destinations, but utilise a range of other media to bring travel and tourism qualifications alive and encourage students to have enquiring minds and develop research skills. Employers tell us that they want potential recruits with well-developed destination knowledge, and these teacher guides assist with that process.”

Bruce Martin, Operations Director for OTT said “Today’s tourism students are tomorrow’s travel agents, so it’s great that OTT is able to provide this free online support to UK Travel & Tourism colleges.” The Online Travel Training teacher guides for Travel and Tourism can be accessed here
