Car Hire is relatively simple to arrange and is a high commission earner for the TMC (Travel Management Company).
Most TMCs have a car rental booking database for major Rental companies built into their computerised reservation system. Travel consultants follow a script prompt, which enables them to request vehicle hire direct with the car rental company and receive immediate confirmation, including details of costs.
A choice of car group is usually offered (rental companies will not confirm a particular car make or model) and vehicles may be categorised according to the following:
- Engine size
- Passenger capacity
- Number of doors
- whether saloon or estate
Vehicles are usually picked up from an Airport or ‘downtown’ city centre rental stations. Cars are usually returned to the same rental station from which they are hired.
There is a special facility for the hire of cars from point A to point B, known as a one-way rental, and additional charges will be applied to this type of rental.
Some hire companies will arrange for the car to be delivered to the client at her/his hotel, or office or to some other location - there is an extra charge for this service.
Each car is cleaned and checked on return, before it is hired out again
