Most business travellers fly to their destination. However, those travelling within Europe, and taking samples or display equipment to trade fairs and exhibitions will often find it is easier, and sometimes more convenient, to take them by car or other means of transport. The samples will be more secure as they are generally in the safe-keeping of their owner and there will be less hassle at ports and border crossings – no waiting to get baggage off a flight!
Though increasing numbers of business travellers use the channel tunnel routes, there are still many who take the traditional ferry routes across to France and Spain.
Many Travel Management Companies (TMCs) book these sea crossings via computerised systems. Tickets are rarely issued, as these are picked up at departure Ports, on production of a pre-advised reference number.
